Here are a few snapshots of what we've been doing in the classroom.
Reading, Reading, Reading!
We have been working on reading skills during our daily "Reading Workshop." Students are also focused on EVERYONE making their first AR goal! Only four weeks into our nine-week goal, 9 students have already made their goals! Go Dolphins!
Math
We are finishing up our unit on place value to the millions and long addition and subtraction. Additionally, we do daily "Math Talks" and are on our second "Problem of the Month" (a challenging, interactive problem that students solve over many weeks). I have been so impressed by the students' thinking!
Project Based Learning: California Here We Come!
We are busy learning about the 1849 Gold Rush! Students have been learning history as well as presentation skills and how to collaborate in a group. In the pictures below, they built puzzles with their new PBL groups to practice positively working together and how to respond to challenges. They also performed skits on how miners travelled to California, made posters on how San Francisco changed due to the Gold Rush. We still have LOTS of fun to come, and have done a few other activities I forgot to document!
Friday Afternoon Fun!
The students were so fantastic this past week that we got a little extra time Friday afternoon to go enjoy the sun together and play kickball (as the "Claim Jumpers" vs the "Forty-Niners"!)...
What a great team!

Ms. Krooss
