Our first days have been filled with learning and fun! During this first week our main focus has been on learning classroom routines and procedures, as well as building a classroom community.
On Monday, students explored the new classroom, made maps, and made artwork out of their names. On Tuesday students worked on team building and were very successful with their challenges. Their first challenge was to build a tower out of index cards. Before they could build they had to write something they all had in common on the card. This was a great way for the class to learn about one another and discover similar interests! Later they worked on building circles. The challenge in this game is the students could not talk or signal to one another. They had to observe what their classmates needed and how they could help them by giving them pieces.
I am so proud of how well they all worked together and their willingness to help one another. These are skills that will help them throughout the year in PBL, Math Workshop and much more! I know that this will be a fantastic class and we will have a wonderful year!
Yesterday, as we worked on community building, we chose a Room 2 mascot. Together the class came up with creative names, but ultimately decided on being called The Bears.
Today, The Bears came up with community rules and were very creative and considerate when coming up with rules such as patience, respect, sharing, and helping one another. The Bears are a kind, hard working and responsible class. I am enjoying all my time spent with them and look forward to updating you all again soon!
Love,
Ms. Gomez
